Don't Miss It Entirely

Alright, so you missed the Opening, but that's no reason to miss out altogether. The Liren Wei Collection is still on display in the main room at the QCC Art Gallery, and the amazing African and pre-Columbian pieces donated by Bonnie and David Ross are up the stairs in the second floor gallery.

QCC AG Highlights: 2012

2012 saw the celebration of three generations of Spanish painters, the return of a dear friend,

the emergence of a new friend, a remarkable array of African headgear, and last, but not least,

an amazing fantasy art exhibit.

QCC AG Highlights: 2011

2011 was another banner year for the QCC Art Gallery, displaying works both varied and of exquisite quality. Modernism, Pop-Art and Fantasy predominated, expressed in a range of media and motifs, it is a year worth remembering.

The Return of Jeronimo Lopez

Jeronimo Lopez, whose still-lifes and angelic creations have dazzled us before, will be adorning the loggia of the QCC Art Gallery in the coming months. So the next time that you crave more than simple sustenance, go surround yourself with beauty brought to us by this talented soul from south of the border.

Visit the Director, Jesus, and the Angels

African Jesus is a large sculpture that is presently on display in the Director's Office.

The QCC Art Gallery is run by a wonderful character named Faustino Quintanilla, who can usually be found hard at work in his second floor offices and he could really use a break. So, the next time you are in the vicinity of the Gallery, step in, enjoy the art, and ascend the stairs to meet the man that makes it all possible.

A Spanish Director

As one may expect, there are some distinct benefits to having a Spanish Director of your art gallery, not the least of which is ready access to some of the finest art exhibits from Spain and others from Latin America in the Spanish tradition.

Neo-Figurative Art at the QCC Art Gallery

Neo-Figurative Art describes an expressionist revival of figurative art in modern form. The terms neo and figurative merged in the 1960s in Mexico and Spain to represent this new form of figurative art. And not long ago, a few of its finest practitioners have exhibited their work at the QCC Art Gallery.

Peace on Earth

Peace on Earth and Good Will Toward All Men.

Mexican artist Jeronimo Lopez received his formal training in painting at the Escuela Popular de Bellas Artes in the city of Morelia and subsequently in the studio of Alfredo Zalce. Later, he traveled to Guadalajara, where he had the privilege of studying under distinguished artist and professor José Luis García Miramontes.

Two years ago, his exhibit at the QCC Art Gallery, Jeronimo Lopez: Naturaleza Muerta,was a resounding success. But I must admit a certain partiality for his sample of angels displayed on the second floor.

QCC Art Gallery Video One-Stop

Some of the most impressive and useful content posted on this blog is the video accompaniment for QCC Art Gallery exhibits, but this content would not even exist without the stellar efforts of the Office of Marketing and Communications at QCC-CUNY.

Providing readers with a glimpse of exhibits is an art in itself, requiring many hours of shooting and editing, as well as assuaging the interests of both artists and the Director. It's not an easy job, but they do it well.

Ecuador in Summer

Jaime Andrade is widely acknowledged as an ambassador of Ecuadorian culture. In 2010,  he was presented the Fundación Gonzalo Rubio Award by the Instituto Otavaleño de Antropología for his contribution to the diffusion of Ecuadorian culture. And in 2011, the QCC Art Gallery was proud to display the diverse excellence of  A Life for Art: The Jaime Andrade Ecuadorian Collection.

This untitled work was created by Ecuadorean artist Hector Anchundia.
