The KHC at QCC

Yet another prime location for discovering art on the QCC campus is the Kupferberg Holocaust Center.


The KHC always has a full calendar of events and exhibits, but also has some amazing work on permanent display, some of which has been previously featured at this blog and its sister MOJO blog.


Works like David Schwab's "Why Hast Thou Forsaken Me?" are currently on exhibit, but to get an idea of the breadth and depth of things past and things to come, visit the KHC site.

The oft overlooked North-face of the QCC Art Gallery

Prior on this blog, we've pointed out that the QCC Art Gallery Building is land-marked and acknowledged as an architectural treasure in Queens. And we've certainly shared many photos of the Gallery, both inside and outside, to reinforce this claim. Yet, I sometimes think that the Northface of the Gallery does not probably get enough attention, though it's emblematic of the era in which it was designed and stands just outside the Student Union.

To address this issue in some small degree, I invite you to enjoy these photos and links.

As unbelievable as it may seem, this is the five hundredth post on this blog, with over four hundred thousand distinct pageviews. And between this and its sister blog, the MOJO blog, and the defunct but still accessible online gallery, QCC-Art, we're well over six hundred thousand pageviews in total.

Thank You, Mr. Wei

Mr. Liren Wei, the QCC Art Gallery's Partner for Progress 2015

Liren Wei grew up in Queens and graduated from Baruch College with a BA in Accounting. Today, he is the managing partner of Wei, Wei & Co.,a successful, full-service accounting firm he founded with his brother in 1995. The company has offices in New York, Los Angeles and Beijing.

Mr. Wei first learned about QCC several years ago when he attended the opening of a major African art exhibit at the QCC Art Gallery. The quality of the show and the Gallery’s acclaimed permanent African Art collection left a powerful impression on Mr. Wei, who has since become a frequent visitor and benefactor of the QCC Art Gallery. If it wasn't for Mr. Wei and other generous men of means like him, our students and community would certainly be the poorer.

QCC Art World

As you can see at left, the world loves the art of the QCC Art Gallery as featured on the Unofficial Blog of the QCC Art Gallery. With nearly 500 entries and over 350,000 pageviews, more than half of site visitors come from outside the U.S..



And it should come as no surprise that the Unofficial Blog of the QCC Art Gallery should have an international following. After all, the art that it features, the art that has appeared at the QCC Art Gallery, finds its origins on four continents and over two dozen nations from around the world.



So the next time you're looking for some beauty on the Net, stop by the QCC Art Gallery Blog, or its sister blog, the Mojo QCC Art Gallery Blog. You won't be sorry that you did.

Some of you may have noticed the icon above in the right sidebar of this blog, but only a few curious, web-savvy individuals have clicked it to investigate where it leads. Well, in this age of click-phobia, allow me to allay your fears and encourage you to explore.

Upon clicking the icon at right, you'll be directed to the MOJO QCC Art Gallery Blog, which is just another blog supporting the mission of the QCC Art Gallery. It's less prolix, with a larger proportion of higher-res photos, but like the main blog, it's all for the good of art.

With nearly 400 posts and almost 90,000 pageviews, how bad could it be?

Other Spaces Review

This sculpture is located between the A&D Department and the KHRCA as one approaches the QCC Art Gallery.

On this blog, I've featured many works that are scattered about the QCC-CUNY campus in a series of posts prefixed with: Other Spaces. Most, but not all, of these works are provided under the auspices of the QCC Art Gallery, and we can all be grateful for their campus-enhancing effect from which we benefit daily.

Though I plan to feature still more in this series, it seemed like a good time to review some posts from the recent past for those who may want to catch up.

The World Loves the QCC Art Gallery

With over 300,000 pageviews and counting, the Unofficial QCC Art Gallery Blog is chugging along at a fine rate, and as you can see at left, its audience is quite international in scope.


In fact, almost half its views come from 170 nations other than the United States, and why? Well, I suppose that good taste knows no boundaries.


Then again, look at all of those views from China and Russia, maybe Hillary & Donald aren't the only ones who are being hacked!

Why Art Matters

There are many answers as to why art matters, but in my view, none is more intrinsically important than the beauty it portrays and inspires. This is no less true for our students than for ourselves. So, contact the QCC Art Gallery today regarding the pedagogical possibilities of collaborating with the QCC AG.

QCC Art Gallery Video One-Stop

Some of the most impressive and useful content posted on this blog is the video accompaniment for QCC Art Gallery exhibits, but this content would not even exist without the stellar efforts of the Office of Marketing and Communications at QCC-CUNY.

Providing readers with a glimpse of exhibits is an art in itself, requiring many hours of shooting and editing, as well as assuaging the interests of both artists and the Director. It's not an easy job, but they do it well.

And now, you can view much of their work related to the QCC Art Gallery via a newly created YouTube Playlist found here.

To all concerned, this is the 400th post at this blog, and though it takes a bit of time and effort, the many words of advice and encouragement that you have offered has made the burden seem far lighter. So, in a nutshell...

A Picasso Summer

Though I mentioned that some of these summer-related articles were an attempt to popularize oft neglected, yet excellent, exhibits of the QCC Art Gallery, this post is an exception.


A Perpetual Metamorphosis: Picasso, which appeared at the QCC Art Gallery from May 22 until July 27 2008 was record-breaker in terms of attendance, with thousands of interested parties throughout our region and beyond making the trek to view this extensive collection comprising many aspects of Picasso the printmaker.

Stewart Warkow Will Be Missed

Stewart J. Warkow passed away earlier this year at the age of 81.

He was born in Brooklyn, NY and remained a lifelong resident of New York City. Stewart was both well-known and widely respected as the Executive Director of Carnegie Hall. Additionally, he held the position of VP and Director of the Conductors Division at ICM Artists in New York City. And it was our good fortune to know him and count him as a dear friend and benefactor of the QCC Art Gallery. He will be missed for his charm, grace, and good-humor as well as his considerable generosity to the Gallery and many others who crossed his path.

Bob Rogers' Museum Quality

Bob Rogers and QCC Art Gallery Press have teamed up to bring you a wonderful compendium of Bob's creative work entitled, Museum Quality.


The book contains imagery and words by the author that cut to the heart of what constitutes art and its place in modern culture. And yet for all its serious intent, it is no turgid disquisition on modern mores, but is infused with the verve and panache that we have come to expect from this artist.


Kudos to Bob for sharing the flower of his own personal aesthetic while chairing the QCC Art and Design Department with such aplomb.
