Rufino De Mingo's Transformed Bodies

Expressionist Rufino de Mingo Escariche was born in Spain, but his internationally inspired art has appeared worldwide, including places like Madrid, San Juan, Paris, Buenos Aires, and Brussels.

Let his art take you on a journey. Come see his work on the second floor landing of the QCC Art Gallery.

Rufino De Mingo

Spanish artist Rufino de Mingo Escariche is an Expressionist painter, sculptor and printmaker, who often emphasizes social themes in his work. He is also a collaborator in the NGO, Artists Without Frontiers.

His work can be seen at the Spanish Museum of Contemporary Art in Madrid, Campiñas Museum in Brazil, Okinawa Museum in Japan, Lima Art Museum in Peru, and is now on display on the second floor at the QCC Art Gallery in Bayside, Queens.

Third Generation Artist

In 2012, the QCC Art Gallery was honored to present the work of three generations of accomplished Spanish artists, the Aguilera family.

The youngest member of this venerable lineage is Chencho Aguilera, whose strange, somewhat surreal compositions remain with the viewer long after confronting them. If you'd like to observe the process of this talented young artist, then watch the time-lapse video below.

A Spanish Director

As one may expect, there are some distinct benefits to having a Spanish Director of your art gallery, not the least of which is ready access to some of the finest art exhibits from Spain and others from Latin America in the Spanish tradition.

Neo-Figurative Art at the QCC Art Gallery

Neo-Figurative Art describes an expressionist revival of figurative art in modern form. The terms neo and figurative merged in the 1960s in Mexico and Spain to represent this new form of figurative art. And not long ago, a few of its finest practitioners have exhibited their work at the QCC Art Gallery.

QCC Art Gallery Video One-Stop

Some of the most impressive and useful content posted on this blog is the video accompaniment for QCC Art Gallery exhibits, but this content would not even exist without the stellar efforts of the Office of Marketing and Communications at QCC-CUNY.

Providing readers with a glimpse of exhibits is an art in itself, requiring many hours of shooting and editing, as well as assuaging the interests of both artists and the Director. It's not an easy job, but they do it well.

A Picasso Summer

Though I mentioned that some of these summer-related articles were an attempt to popularize oft neglected, yet excellent, exhibits of the QCC Art Gallery, this post is an exception.


A Perpetual Metamorphosis: Picasso, which appeared at the QCC Art Gallery from May 22 until July 27 2008 was record-breaker in terms of attendance, with thousands of interested parties throughout our region and beyond making the trek to view this extensive collection comprising many aspects of Picasso the printmaker.

Patriotism in Summer

Born in Spain, but making his career in Caracas and New York, Antonio Perez Melero has rendered a number of patriotic images for clients like the William J. Clinton Presidential Library, the Women in Military Service for America Memorial at Arlington National Cemetery, as well as for his summer 2009 exhibit at the QCC Art Gallery entitled, A Tribute.
