QCC AG Highlights: 2013

Holocaust survivor Rosemary Koczy's work is part of the QCC AG Permanent Collection
and the QCC AG Press has published all three volumes of her memoirs.

It isn't every gallery that can claim it had three exhibits of vast cultural significance on display within one calendar year. In fact, very few could claim one. But the QCC Art Gallery achieved this distinction in 2013, thanks to the bravura efforts of its Executive Director, Faustino Quintanilla.

the emergence of a new friend, a remarkable array of African headgear, and last, but not least,

QCC AG Highlights: 2010

This delicate vessel, displayed at the QCC Art Gallery in 2010, is over 4000 years old.
From ancient Chinese vessels to post-expressionist musings, 2010 was an eclectic year for the QCC Art Gallery. The Gallery's largest installation to date, as well as the verdant, pastoral depictions of a former faculty member also appeared.

QCC AG Highlights: 2007

2007 was the first year our talented friend Mara Sfara exhibited at the QCC Art Gallery, and it was also the year a major Cameroonian exhibit appeared, the first of several to come. And let us not forget Miriam Beerman's work, which also graces the National Gallery in DC.

Haunting Ladies

It's turning colder, the leaves are changing color, and thoughts inevitably go to those cheery autumnal feasts like Halloween and All Soul's Day. If these haunting works, all of which have appeared at the QCC Art Gallery, appeal, then simply click pics for related images and information.

Sita

When New Light On Early Art Forms of the Indian Subcontinent appeared at the QCC Art Gallery during the warm months of 2013, several lovely renderings of Sita, consort of Rama, were displayed.

The exhibit remains one of my all-time favorites, and it's heartening to see that many others see the value in beauty and story telling, which is indeed timeless.

Below, enjoy an amazing work by Nina Paley called,
Sita Sings the Blues.

Who Dat?

Faustino Quintanilla, Marta Sozzi, and Javier Cambre
I'm sure that most of you recognize the somewhat younger Executive Director of the QCC Art Gallery, but pictured with him are two other long-time collaborators whose work has been featured at the QCC AG as well as on this blog, namely: Mart Sozzi and our own Javier Cambre.

Cultures at QCC: Taiwan

Above you see a few of the grand works from Taiwan that have recently graced the QCC Art Gallery.

Though the exhibit has past, it is not likely to be the last, as many fine works from Formosa have appeared at the QCC Art Gallery in recent years.

Of course, if you're the impatient sort, then enjoy the video highlights from Rewoven below.

Cultures at QCC: India

Gurjinder Singh's Procession
Indian Art has made more than one appearance, as well as more than one incarnation, at the QCC Art Gallery. Whether it was ultra modern, infused with a globalized sensibility, or ancient, classic and evocatively erotic, it never ceased to inspire and excite.

Art & Design @ QCC

The side entrance to the Art & Design Building shown in the distance.
Congratulations to the Art & Design Department at QCC-CUNY, as it has just received accreditation from the National Association of Schools of Art and Design (NASAD). QCC-CUNY is one of only 19 community colleges in the nation as well as the only art program in the CUNY system to receive this prestigious accreditation.

So, if you're interested in an elite art program that is also affordable, consider attending QCC, and perhaps some of your art will be exhibited at the QCC Art Gallery like the works shown below.

Works exhibited during the annual Student Exhibit at the QCC Art Gallery.

QCC Art Film Fest: Koczy as Witness

Rosemarie Koczy was a tortured soul. But having survived the Holocaust, who could blame her?

What is more important, she overcame her horrors by becoming a great artist, responsible for sensitizing millions who might never have been so touched had it not been for her gifts.

Her recent exhibit at the QCC Art Gallery was a great triumph, as was the publication of her memoirs by the QCC Art Gallery Press.

Enjoy the short videography below.

Remember: Marlene Tseng Yu

It was some time ago that Marlene Tseng Yu's work appeared at the QCC Art Gallery. Nevertheless, it marked the start of something significant.......the QCC Art Gallery as champion of modern Chinese art.
Marlene came to the U.S. from Taiwan for her MFA degree and has resided in SoHo ever since. Her Forces of Nature exhibit consisted of works as large as 12x30 feet, covering entire walls of the QCC Art Gallery.

QCC Art Film Fest: Gladys Thompson Roth

Gladys Thompson Roth sometimes used marble, sometimes used mahogany, and sometimes just used driftwood, but whatever her medium, the result was always beauty.

The elegance and subtlety of her very fine work appeared at the QCC Art Gallery some years ago, but the memory of her creations lives on.
