Free in Queens

Visiting the QCC Art Gallery would be a bargain even if it charged for admission, but it does not, and so it is all the more so. Of course, it is not the only bargain in Queens, as several other prominent repositories of art in Queens can also stake a claim.

The Noguchi Museum
Sculptor Isamu Noguchi opened his museum in 1985. It occupies a former photo-engraving plant along Vernon Boulevard. The Museum's twelve galleries and a garden are populated with Noguchi’s sculptures, architectural models, and furniture designs. (Free the first Friday of every month)

Museum of the Moving Image
Located near Kaufman Astoria Studios, this museum contains a state-of-the-art 267-seat cinema and gallery spaces. Exhibits examine every step of the film-making process, with artifacts from more than 1,400 different productions.
(Free Fridays 4–8pm)

Godwin-Ternbach Collection
The Godwin-Ternbach collection, located at Queens College, contains over 6,000 objects from antiquity to the present with art and artifacts in all media from all periods and cultures. Works from the major areas of Painting, Sculpture and Decorative Arts, Prints and Drawings, and Ethnographic Arts are offered here in chronological order, from ancient to modern times.

Queens College Art Center
The Queens College Art Center is also located on the grounds of Queens College and has shown more than 200 exhibitions to date. The Art Center focuses on modern and contemporary art, presenting the works of both emerging and established artists in diverse media.
