Curtis Photographs
The North American Indian by ethnologist and photographer Edward S. Curtis is one of the most significant and controversial representations of traditional Native American culture ever produced.
Issued in a limited edition from 1907-1930, Curtis portrayed the traditional customs and costumes of eighty Native American nations. The twenty volumes, each with an accompanying portfolio, are organized by nations and culture, encompassing the Great Plains, Great Basin, Plateau Region, Southwest, California, Pacific Northwest, and Alaska.
And the QCC Art Gallery has 40 prints among the various other treasures it seldom has time or space to display. But perhaps with sufficient notice, the Director could bring a few samples forth from storage to excite and illuminate your classes.
