Nji Amadou Njoya
Born to a family of distinguished artists, tradesmen, and advisors of the Fon (King), Amadou Njoya is a fourth generation member of the Bamum Kingdom of Cameroon. In 2005, in an inaugural ceremony presided over by Fon Imbraham Mobombo Njoya, Amadou Njoya succeeded his father Nsangou Mama taking the title Nji (Master) which was passed down from his great-grandfather.

In addition to advising the Fon, Njoya’s title implies a cultural role and responsibility to transmit Bamum customs to the next generation through an oral tradition dating back to the late 14th century. He is also responsible for the enactment of religious rituals, annual commemorative festivals, initiations, and other celebratory practices.

In his time in America, Amadou has been a loyal friend and generous sponsor of the QCC Art Gallery, and so it was with great pleasure that the QCC Art Gallery hosted his impressive collection, Powerful Arts of Cameroon, earlier this year.
