Two Summers Ago

Robert Nickelsberg's Afghanistan: A Distant War adorned the QCC Art Gallery throughout the summer of 2014. The exhibit had a range of emotive depictions, beautifully shot by the talented Mr. Nickelsberg, but perhaps none were more haunting than the depiction below.

It is a digital print from 2001, showing an Afghan shepherd in Kandahar Province calling to his children in the distance. He stands near a wall bombed by U.S. aircraft. It is a remnant of an attack that killed 25 civilians, although residents claimed neither Al Qaeda nor the Taliban were present during the attack. Such is the glory of war.
