József Jakovits at QCC
Dominating the Hungarian Art Exhibit now on display at the QCC Art Gallery are the works of a self-taught artist, Jozsef Jakovits.
His first work with metal was as an employee of the Hungarian Royal State Iron, Steel and Machine Works, but he went on to become an influential modern sculptor and painter, evoking the spirit of modern masters like Picasso, Ernst and Miro, while often depicting naturalistic themes from Proto-European culture.
Time spent in NY ignited a fascination with Kabbalah, and so you'll note some Hebrew calligraphy in many of his later works.
When Jakovits passed away in 1994, he left a large and varied legacy for those who follow him. Give yourself a treat, visit the QCC Art Gallery to see the intriguing work of this creative man.
